This document will guide you through moving your MedicalDirector Bluechip data to new Server computer, and is divided into three manageable sections; Old Server, New Server, Workstations.
Note that this guide covers the installation and moving of MedicalDirector-related data and components only.
If at any stage you encounter errors, please contact MedicalDirector Customer Service.
Before you Begin
Please contact your System Administrator if you need assistance with the following:
You will require an external hard drive or other media for moving the data from the old server to the new server.
You will need your MedicalDirector Bluechip Store password, or Medicare Australia Location Certificate file and PIC Passphrase.
Ensure you have the latest full Bluechip release, available here. To determine which version of Bluechip you currently have installed, open Bluechip and select Help > About.
Ensure you have logged into Windows with local Administrative privileges.
On the Old Server Computer
Backup the Bluechip Data
Scenario 1: .Bak Files
Run Bluechip
Select BC Tools > Backup.
Run the Backup Utility.
Scenario 2: MDF and LDF files
In Windows, select Start > Run and type Services.msc. Press Enter.
Locate and right-click SQL Server (HCNSQL07).
Select Stop.
Via Windows Explorer, browse to the location of your Bluechip database. It can be found in one of the following locations, depending to your SQL version:

Copy (do not ‘cut’) the following databases:
Practice Database Files (usually named with Practice Name or Doctor’s name)
BCpractice.MDF
BCpractice_log.LDF
Manage Ezy Database Files
HCN_MNGEZY.MDF
HCN_MNGEZY_LOG.LDF
Paste the files to the backup location (C:\HCN\Backups)
Backup the Bluechip Documents
To include any scanned documents:
Browse to the following locations and copy the folders ‘Documents’ and ‘Imaging’ (if they are present) to an external drive.
C:\Manageezy\HCN\Documents
C:\Users\Public\Health Communication Network\Bluechip\Bluedata\Database Name\Imaging
Paste the files to the backup location (C:\HCN\Backups)
Copy the Backup Files to External Media
Default backup location: C:\HCN\Backup
Copy the hic.psi to the external drive.
Backup the database inf file:
This file contains information about your existing Bluechip server and computers, such as the names of these computers, and can come in handy once you have setup the new server.
Copy the hic.psi to the external drive.
Default installed location:
32 Bit OS: C:\ Program Files\Medicare Client Adaptor
64 Bit OS: C:\ Program Filesx86\Medicare Client Adaptor
On the New Server Computer
Install Bluechip
Install Bluechip using the latest full version release.
Please Note: If the installed version is no longer available for download via MedicalDirector Automatic Update or from the MedicalDirector website, you will need to update the server and workstations to the current version, manually.
Restore Your Bluechip Database
Scenario 1: .BAK files from Backup Utility
Start SQL Server Management Studio. From the Windows Start menu, select All Programs. Within the list of programs, locate Microsoft SQL Server and then locate and click SQL Server Management Studio.
Once SQL Server Management Studio has opened, you will be presented with a Connect to Server window. Check the following is correct then click Connect.
Server Type: Database Engine.
Server name: Server Name/HCNSQL07
Authentication
You will be presented with the Object Explorer screen.
Right-click Database, select Restore.
The Restore Database window will be presented, on the General Tab select Source.
In the Destination for Restore To Database, type the name of the Practice Database.
Under
Source For Restore, select
From Device, click the
button.
Click Add, and browse to the location your database (.bak), click OK.
In Select Backup Sets to Restore, tick the Restore check box.
On the left, click Options.
In the Restore Options window, tick Overwrite the existing database.
Click OK.
Scenario 2: MDF and LDF files
Browse to the location of your Bluechip HCNSQL07 instance in either of the following locations, according to your SQL version;

Browse to the location of the backup databases.
Copy (do not ‘cut’) the Bluechip Database to the HCNSQL instance location

HCN_MNGEZY_LOG.LDF
Start SQL Server Management Studio.
From the Windows Start menu, select All Programs. Within the list of programs, locate Microsoft SQL Server and then locate and click SQL Server Management Studio.
Once SQL Server Management Studio has opened, you will be presented with a Connect to Server window. Check the following is correct then click Connect.
Server Type: Database Engine
Server name: Server Name/HCNSQL07
Authentication
You will be presented with the Object Explorer screen.
Click on the + to expand the databases.
Right-click Databases and select Attach.
Click Add on the Attach Databases window.
The Locate Database File window will be presented. Select the Bluechip database.
Click OK.
You will be presented with the Attach Database window. Click OK.
Restore the Bluechip Documents
Copy the Documents file from the external media to the following locations;
C:\Manageezy\HCN\Documents
In Win7/2008/2011 - C:\Users\Public\Health Communication Network\Bluechip\Bluedata\Database Name\Imaging
Restore the Bluechip Hic.psi
Copy the hic.psi file from the external media to the following location;
32 Bit OS - C:\ Program Files\Medicare Client Adaptor
64 Bit OS - C:\ Program Filesx86\Medicare Client Adaptor
Configure Bluechip for Online Claiming
Open Bluechip.
Setup > Practice > Batch Types.
Select your Medicare Online class e.g. HIC BB.
Click Configure Medicare Australia.
On the Location and Authentication tab, populate the following:
Location Id = BCP#####
Passphrase = Store Password
Click
the button and browse to the location of
the hic.psi on the new server.
Click OK.
Configure the Database.inf File
Locate and open the database.inf file Highlight and copy all text between and including the lines [BCDemo] and DBSQLDatabseImport=none
Create space at the end of the file by pressing Enter
Right-click and paste the text
Change all references of BCDemo in the copied data to the customer’s database name (as shown in bold below)
Save the changes

On the Workstations
Update the Workstation Configuration
Browse to C:\Program Files\Health Communication Network\Bluechip
Open the Bconfig.exe
Select the Customer Database, click OK.
You will be presented with the Bluechip Database Configuration Window
Change SQL Server: Old Server Name\GCNSQL07 to New Server Name\HCNSQL07
Click Apply > Close.
Repeat the above steps for Bluechip Demo Database
Configure Bluechip for Online Claiming
Open Bluechip.
Setup > Practice > Batch Types.
Select your Medicare Online class e.g. HIC BB.
Click Configure Medicare Australia.
Select BcTools > HCN Backup.
Run the Backup Utility.
On the Location and Authentication tab, populate the following:
Location Id = BCP#####
Passphrase = Store Password
Click the ellipse […] button and browse to the location of the hic.psi on the new server.
Click OK.
Repeat the above on all workstations.
Open Bluechip and ensure you are able to view and save letters and documents, if you encounter any errors please contact MedicalDirector Customer Service.
