A patient's country of birth and ethnicity can be recorded via the Pt Details tab of the patient's record. The following procedure for recording a patient's country of birth and/or ethnicity is shown from the perspective of having already opened the patient's record, although it is also possible to record this information from the front screen of Clinical when creating a new patient record, or editing an existing record.
The 'Country of Birth' and 'Ethnicity' data in Clinical was obtained from the Australia Bureau of Statistics (ABS):

Recording a Patient's Country of Birth
From within the patient's Clinical Window, either:
Select Patient > Details
Press Ctrl+D
Double-click any demographic field displayed at the top of the patient's Clinical Window.
The
Patient Details window
appears.
Select the Personal Details tab.
The
Country of Birth can be
selected via the associated drop-down menu, as shown following.

For patients whose Country of Birth is other than Australia, indicate
also the year in which they arrived in Australia.
Recording a Patient's Ethnicity
From within the patient's Clinical Window, either:
Select Patient > Details
Press Ctrl+D
Double-click any demographic field displayed at the top of the patient's Clinical Window.
The
Patient Details window
appears.
Ensure you have selected the Pt Details tab (displayed by default).
To
indicate the patient's ethnicity, locate the Ethnicity
field, and click the associated 
button.
Note that you cannot free-type into this field.
The Select Ethnicity window appears.
Indicate
the patient's ethnicity by ticking one or more of the check boxes.
In the following example, the user has navigated to the 'Australian'
option within the Oceanian > Australian Peoples set. However,
they could have easily selected 'Australian' from the 'Most Commonly
Used' section; this section is populated with the top-10 most
used ethnicities from your patient database.
Alternatively,
you can search for a specific ethnicity by typing into the search
field provided. In the example following, ethnicities beginning
with the word "europe"
are being searched for, and the 3rd of 13 results is currently
displayed. Click the 
and 
buttons to navigate
through the list of search results.
Click
OK when
you are ready to continue. The patient details window is populated
with the options you selected. Once you are satisfied with the
selection(s), click Save on the Patient Details window to confirm.
