Online Patient Verification is a process whereby, before processing a claim with Online Claiming, the patient can be checked for eligibility to receive Medicare benefits. The patient's Medicare Card and patient details are sent to Medicare Australia via Online Claiming and a eligibility response is returned immediately. The check is valid only for the day it is submitted.
There are a few ways in which you can perform an OPV check:
Manually, via the Waiting Room
Automatically, when recording a visit. To perform the OPV check automatically you must first enable the setting in Online Claiming settings.
Automatically when adding a patient to the Waiting Room. To perform the OPV check automatically you must first enable the setting in Online Claiming settings.
All methods require an active internet connection.
To Perform a Manual OPV Check:
This method presumes a patient has been added to the Waiting Room, and that you have enabled online claiming.
Locate and right-click the patient entry in the Waiting Room.
Select OPV Check from the menu that appears. The patient's Medicare Card and patient details are sent to Medicare Australia.
One of the following possible responses is returned immediately;
Details Validated
OPV Check Failed
Medicare Card or Patient Details require updating
